Six Months!

This week Sammy will be six months old. I've been a mom for a whole half a year! And here are some thoughts on the last six months.

Thank goodness the 3-4 colicky months are over, good riddance to the hourly nursing and never sleeping! But I figure that since I had such an easy pregnancy I couldn't expect the perfect little newborn that sleeps all through church at just three weeks old. Now that he's past that stage, he's actually fun to have around.

Before I had a baby I vowed not to be one of those parents who constantly talks in third person, "Mommy's doing this.." and "will Daddy do that?" Yeah, that lasted about five seconds after he was born.

I never thought I'd have to change MY clothes as often as I change his sometimes. Or that I'd go out in public with spit up on me, no makeup and not even care (but I don't do it that often.)

I must learn to stop wearing my dry-clean only skirts. I didn't realize I have so many until he spits up all over it and I think, "Is this dry-clean only? I bet it is!" I've already had one skirt completely ruined.

Discussing bowel movements is disgusting unless it's your child's, then its just like talking about the weather.

I can't count how many times he's been super fussy and I think, "he CAN'T be hungry, I just fed him" and as it always turns out, he is STILL hungry.

Who knew you could adore someone so much? I'm fascinated with him and could spend hours watching him play and figure out the world around him.

I love those thoughts. My little sister (who was childless at the time) once expressed her disgust that I simply put a cardigan over my shirt that had spit up on the shoulder. I told her that I rarely even covered the spit up--I thought the cardigan trick would appease her. Boy, had my standards adjusted or what?

That was great Liz and it is all true. I have always said that you can't really appreciate your own parents until you become one. Do you believe it now? :)
