Three years ago today Matt and I had our first date. I always remember it was the day after Cinco de Mayo. He was a little intimidated to ask me out, so when he finally did it was via email. Only that was when we were migrating to a new email system and I wasn't getting half my messages. So when I didn't respond to his message, he walked by my desk and said "It wasn't a trick question", I of course had no clue what he was talking about so he asked if I got his email. I said no, but asked what it said (even though I knew what it was going to say). Once he got the email through, it said something like, "would you like to have dinner with a 30 something professional who is kind, handsome and not nearly as funny as he thinks he is?" I thought it was cute, and we still have a copy of our first emails somewhere.
When he came to pick me up my dad answered the door, our house was split level with about three square feet of landing at the front door and then stairs going down and some going up. So my mom was half up one flight of stairs and my dad was half up the other and Matt felt completely penned in with no escape. After a few awkward moments with my parents, I came to rescue him and we left on our date, dinner and a movie in Old Town Alexandria. Ahh, don't you love first dates???

That's so cute. So what was the movie? Hey! I just noticed you have 100 days to go until Baby Coleman arrives--how exciting!

I love those dating stories...the beginnings of the relationship are so exciting and full of butterflies! I love it! The rest of the relationship is good, too...but you gotta love the beginnings when everything is so new and spontaneous. hehe ;-)

How are you feeling? Are you getting sick of people asking you, "how you're feeling?"

I bet he felt like some 16 year old kid all over again. Poor guy!

How's the belly growing?

Super good story Lizzo! I can't believe I haven't heard that before--apparently you aren't doing your job ;) I loved his email!

That was fun! I can definitely see Matt saying something like that.

I remember that. That happened to be the week we were visiting you guys. I got to meet Matt before Dad did.

I don't find that nearly so awkward and funny as the time you had the date with the person of color. It wouldn't have been a problem but you didn't forewarn me when I answered the door.
