This weekend I tried crawfish for the first time. Growing up, they were "crayfish" and were little things we collected from the creek and put in a big bucket just for fun. Certainly not for eating! I decided I finally should try some, since they're such a big deal down here. The verdict? They're ok, kind of a tame version of shrimp, though I think I'll stick with the shrimp. I still need to try hot, boiled crawfish, there's a whole festival here based on that stuff.
Speaking of festivals, this weekend was the Sunflower Trail and Festival. The trail is described as a "scenic drive features several sunflower varieties and wildflower fields. Sunflowers along the trail are expected to be in full bloom." And the festival is in a little town just a few miles north of the trail loop. We packed everyone in the van and headed for the festivities. I'm sorry to say that the Sunflower Trail consisted of two sunflower patches and two wildflower patches. The end. We were a little disappointed, but still got some pictures and it was a pretty drive through the countryside. In the end though, we decided to skip the festival.
